UWS SecondBite | FareShare Volunteer Evening

On a cool Thursday evening on August 27, 2026, a team of budding chefs from Urban Water Solutions headed to the SecondBite | FareShare facility in Abbotsford Victoria, to voluntarily help prepare meals.

SecondBite | FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need.

Within the space of 2-hours, a team of 10 UWS staff and partners achieved the following:

  • Packed 940 x 400g single-serve meals of chickpea and vegetable curry
  • Prepped carrots for roasting that will go towards 1,200 meals
  • Prepped ½ pallet of mushrooms that will go towards 800 meals
  • Contributed to cleaning and resetting the kitchen
  • Total impact of 2,940 meals that the team contributed to that are already out on the road and soon to be in the bellies of those in need

Each year SecondBite | FareShare transforms rescued, donated and their homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact.

Thanks to Kim Khoo, a regular volunteer at SecondBite | FareShare, for organising the event and our team of UWS staff and partners who worked together enthusiastically and efficiently to achieve a tremendous result.

Urban Water Solutions is again proud to have donated to the charity event ‘Ride for Lucy‘. This event has been created to support ‘RUN DiPG‘, a charity fighting to eradicate the most lethal childhood disease, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DiPG).

DiPG is an aggressive form of brain cancer that mostly affects young children. There is no cure for this disease and less than 10% of those affected will survive more than two years. Less than 1% will survive five years.

Please visit https://www.rideforlucy.com.au for more information about this event, and visit https://rundipg.org to find out more about DiPG.

We hope that our contribution will assist in the fight to eradicate this disease.
