AWA’s 8th annual Victorian Tree Planting Day

On a cool and drizzly Saturday morning at the beginning of June, 100 or so volunteers from the local water industry gathered with friends, family and dogs. A Welcome to Country was given by an elder from the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation followed by an introduction to the event by Darragh O’Donovan (from Water4Good, sponsors of the event) and a quick planting instruction session.

Small teams of diggers, planters and “stakers” were formed and collectively we planted over 1,000 plants which connect to areas planted in previous years and will provide a wider habitat for the endangered Altona Skipper Butterfly.
Following a morning of productive activity, we gathered for fresh coffee, vegie BBQ, and photos.

Thank you to the organisers for helping to make this a fantastically rewarding event.
