WSAA Wastewater Systems Infiltration & Inflow Practice Review
From 2011 to 2013 Urban Water Solutions’ Neil Moody acted as Principal Wastewater System Advisor on a project team comprising Urban Water Solutions and GHD commissioned by the Water Services Association of Australasia to develop the Wastewater Systems Infiltration and Inflow (I/I) Good Practice Guidelines.
The aims of the project were to:
- compile a common understanding of current I/I performance and management processes across WSAA’s participating organisations (24 water companies and councils across Australia);
- assess how other wastewater system improvement processes (e.g. storage, increase conveyance capacity) can also be used in conjunction with I/I management programmes to optimally reduce system overflows;
- develop a strategic framework for the management of I/I; and
- develop a good practice guideline document for I/I management programmes applicable to Australian conditions.
The outcome of this project was WSAA’s Management of Wastewater System Infiltration and Inflow – Good Practice Guidelines Vol I and II which are broadly used across Australasia.
