Little Rock Water SECAP Update
In 2009 Urban Water Solutions, in collaboration with local firm RJN Group Inc, was engaged by Little Rock Water to update its 2002 System Evaluation and Capacity Assurance Plan, evaluate the impact of works completed by Little Rock Water since 2002 and validate the need for the remaining improvements or develop additional options to eliminate overflows. Little Rock Water served over 67,000 properties and maintained over 1,700 km of sewers ranging in size from 6 to 60 inches in diameter, two wastewater treatment plants with a third under construction, and five major sewage pumping stations.
The project entailed:
- City-wide wastewater flow monitoring
- Updating the existing hydraulic model obtained from Little Rock Water
- Identification of existing capacity deficiencies and requirements
- Analysis of existing flow equalisation basins and wastewater treatment plants and pump stations and provision of recommendations for operational efficiency
- Development of capacity improvement projects including budget estimates
- Provision of recommendations for potential inflow/infiltration reduction
- Determination of capacity requirements for future growth
- Development of a capital improvement plan to eliminate overflows for the design storm event
